Kilter is the foot tapping awe inspiring blend of seeing and having the buzz of live muscians over DJs. The DJs in question are the amazingly funky broken beat and happy hip hop mix of OLI L and then you have the glitzy crazy house scenanigans of ...wait for it...... Dave House! and yes that's his real name.
They have already got a Friday and Saturday night residency at one of brighton's latest, funkiest pubs: the Three and Ten (formally the Queens Head), on 3 Steine St. On Saturdays, the Kilter collective share the boards with the likes of Will (Latenightlouging at the Fishbowl), Bushy (Catskills), Req (Warp records/ knowlege of Self), Kinobe and many other local record labels and artists.
The live element is the usual stylings of jazz vocals, sometimes almost inperceptibly adding figurative notes and tones as well as belting some classic house athems out. There is also the marvelous Tim Mercer of the Bongos who was involved in my last project Jam donut that ran in Ocean rooms a few years back.
It has been a constant area of debate, where DJ dance music is heading, and
to combine a live jazz band over the finely spun tunes of some of Brighton's
best up and coming DJs seemed to be a way of caputuring both worlds.
